Reflexology Certification, Ancient Art and Modern Trend

Reflexology

Reflexology is not only an ancient art, but also a modern wellness trend that continues to grow and flourish. Reflexology techniques are one of the easiest and least invasive ways to encourage the body to detoxify, heal, support, and invigorate. With evidence of reflexology practice dating as far back as 2300 BC and with signs of its use in China, Africa, Japan and North America, reflexology is now one of the most popular alternative therapies in the world.

Introduced in America in the beginning of the 1900s, reflexology continues to gain popularity with those looking to find relief from stress, pain, illness, and fatigue. That is why getting a reflexology certification is incredibly rewarding. Not only are therapists able to help clients relax and manage many different health issues; those already practicing massage therapy will add a fantastic method to incorporate into their healing practice.

Reflexology operates on the basis that when Qi, or ‘life force’ is blocked and held in different areas of the body, the natural healing process of the body’s systems is prevented. Through applying pressure and manipulating various reflexes in the hands, ears, and feet, corresponding parts of the body are stimulated. This allows Qi to flow more naturally. It is thought that Reflexology can be immensely helpful in the management of many things: stress, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, chronic fatigue, allergies, insomnia, and arthritis–to name a few.

Through manipulating reflex points on the hands and feet, the lymphatic system is able to function better and blood flow is stimulated. This naturally encourages the body to release toxins and helps to regain a healthy balance in the body. This is one of the ways having a reflexology certification can help a therapist’s clientele. Additionally endorphins are often released during reflexology treatments, which can help immensely with pain management. Clients coping with arthritis and various aches and pains also often attain a better level of mobility after reflexology treatments.

A reflexology certification is a promising career move because it also allows the practitioner to work on clients in many environments; because the client does not have to disrobe. Reflexology focuses on the hands and feet because of the over 7,000 nerve endings present that correspond to various parts of the body. Because of this, many of the benefits of acupuncture can be achieved through reflexology– but without a needle application which can sometimes be painful. With this focus on the feet and hands, reflexology is non-invasive. When used with other forms of treatment for more serious medical conditions, reflexology also works well as a complementary way to encourage healing and relaxation.

The ancient art of reflexology is now a modern wellness trend because of the many ways it invigorates and promotes the body’s natural healing processes. Certification in reflexology gives wellness professionals another proven technique to help people achieve better health and harmony. Visit Atlanta School of Massage to learn more about reflexology certification.
