Tips for Greening Your Practice, Part 2 Energy

Posted on: November 2nd, 2011 by Admin
    • Healthy Planet

    • Energy Star reports that compact fluorescent bulbs use about 90 percent less energy than incandescent bulbs. Every 90-watt bulb replaced by a CFL saves 1,600 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions.
    • Walk, cycle, carpool or take the bus to work. If you do house calls in your car (preferably a hybrid vehicle), keep your tire pressure at the recommended level, service your car regularly and choose ethanol-enhanced gas.
    • Insulate and energy-proof your clinic space. Caulk around window and door frames to minimize thermal leakage. Install thermostats and timing devices to control energy use.
    • Up to 90 percent of the energy a washer consumes is in heating water. Washing in cold water saves considerable energy and money.
